Showing Up for Texas: Why Leadership Matters

Monday, October 20, 2024

This weekend I had the privilege of speaking at the China Springs candidate forum. It was a wonderful opportunity to share my vision for Texas House District 56 and connect with voters about the issues that matter most to our community. While my opponent, Pat Curry, didn’t attend despite originally agreeing to the date and time, I made sure to show up. When I make a commitment, I honor it. The organizers were only informed of Curry’s absence just before the meeting began, and this was a disservice to the voters.

For me, being present is key to serving the community. Yesterday, I spoke about critical issues like expanding Medicaid to cover more Texans, addressing the affordable housing crisis, advocating for women's healthcare, and supporting our public schools. These are not just talking points—they are real issues affecting real people, and I believe it’s crucial to show up for tough conversations.

I’m running for office because I believe in transparency and accessibility. Our community deserves a leader who will be present, listen, and offer real solutions. That’s why I’m excited to participate in two additional forums this week:

  • HLN (Hispanic Leadership Network) Candidate Forum at KWTX studios tomorrow Monday, October 21st at 6:30pm (Register to attend here.)

  • West Candidate Forum at the West VFW on Thursday, October 24th at 6:30pm

I’m committed to being a leader who shows up and delivers. Thank you for being a part of this journey, and for supporting a future where the voices of all Texans are heard.

Erin Shank

Candidate for the Texas House of Representatives,  HD 56
