Voting Rights

Our right to vote in free and fair elections is a cornerstone of our democracy, yet it is being undermined across Texas and the country. Republicans have been attacking our voting rights for years, from every angle possible.

There was zero evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election and Republicans have maintained their majority in state government through recent election cycles, yet they continue to roll out legislation for “voter integrity”.  It’s all a game designed to suppress votes.

For instance, mail-in ballots have been the subject of GOP attacks in the past several years.  In Texas, the only people who can vote by mail are the elderly, the disabled, folks out of the district during voting times (primarily soldiers and college students) and women in the late stages of their pregnancies.   There is absolutely no evidence that these folks “cheat” when they vote and restricting voting by mail just makes it harder for these great Texans to vote.

However, the greatest threat to our Democracy and voting rights is racial gerrymandering, which is so evident here in McLennan County.  Our county has been racially gerrymandered by the Republican legislators in Austin to make sure that our Black and Hispanic neighbors’ votes do not count.   In McLennan County, East Waco (our historically Black community) and South Waco (our historically Hispanic community) are not represented by Waco’s Representative in the Texas House of Representatives.  These beautiful communities are represented by a Republican from Itasca, Texas - population 1,700 - who also represents seven rural overwhelmingly Republican counties.  This racial gerrymandering results in a severe dissolution of those votes and these beautiful communities right here in McLennan County therefore have no representation in the Texas House of Representatives.  That is shameful.

We will be able to redrawn the voting lines in McLennan County in 2030 and we must stop this intentional attack on our community's right to have all of our voices heard. Attacks on our voting rights will not stop.  Democracy is not merely a theoretical idea; it is the active participation of citizens discussing issues, hearing from candidates, and casting ballots.

Your vote matters, and your voice deserves to be heard. I will fight to protect our democracy and ensure that every eligible voter can participate in this vital process. You can be part of this fight by using your vote to put me in office.
